• JOHN BYRON, KTS: Son of Philip and Rosana (see Group F1). Born 2nd Jan 1793; baptised Stoke Damerel 20 Apr 1808; commissioned lieutenant RN 3 Jan 1814. (KTS= Knight of the Tower and Sword - a Portuguese honour given to him in 1828 for his assistance in returning Don Pedro to his throne.) Died 20 Nov 1841 (death cert). Was in the Coast Guard from 1833 until his death. (JH)
  (1) On 26 Oct 1819 at Tamerton Foliot, "John Somerville Esquire of this Parish, batchelor, married SUSANNA DORCAS BAXTER of this parish, spinster, by licence with consent of parents". Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. Susanna was daughter of Dudley Baxter, Esq of Warwickshire. She died 7 Nov 1825, age 26 (MI).

In 1861 census together at Military Heath, Colchester: Dudley age 46, Clergyman Church of England, Chaplain to HM Forces of Colchester; Mary 29, with children Mary, Dudley and Edmund, a monthly nurse and two servants. In 1871 census together with children and three servants at 14 Mount Edgcombe Terrace, Stoke Damerel: Dudley age 50, Chaplain to the Forces, Church of England; Mary age 39. In 1881 census Dudley is at 31 St George's Place, Canterbury, Kent, age 60, "1st Class Chaplain to HM Forces Retired", wife absent. Mary is staying with Stafford Baxter's family (see below). Dudley died 10 Oct 1881 (JH)

• SUSAN HENRIETTA: Born Tamerton Foliot 26 Feb 1824; baptised there privately 24 Apr 1826 (recorded in register 24 Feb 1826). "26 May 1849 Only daughter of late John S., RN,KTS - marriage notice. See Holland BUNCE" (BMSI) Marriage was at Plymouth St Andrew's (index); regd Plymouth Jun 1849. In 1851 census Henretta Bunce is at 42 Emma Place, East Stonehouse, married, age 26, wife of Captain RN, with aunt Rosina and son Holland Bunce, age 1. Susan Henrietta died 1 Aug 1893 in Hobart, Tasmania (JH)

(2) John Somerville, "Lieut R.N. in command of the Coast Guard", married MARY FOWLER by licence, Wembury 18 Feb 1837. Mary born c.1815/6. John died in Stonehouse. Possibly the Lieut V. (sic) Somerville buried Stoke Damerel 1841, age 47, in Stoke Damerel MI Index -JH. Mary is in the 1851 census at 3 Ivy Houses, Plymouth, Stoke Damerel, head, age 36, widow of a Lieutenant RN, born Buckland, Devon. In 1861 census at 6 Mill Pleasant, Stoke Damerel, widow, age 43, naval annuitant. In 1871 census at same address, widow, age 55, Lady. Her mother Mary Fowlers (sic), widow, age 91, Lady, born Devon, is with her. In 1881 census at same address, age 65.

Probably son of John & Mary but not named in his father's will, dated Sep 1839 - JH. Married ELIZABETH MARIA PARISH, St Philip's Stepney, Middx (MW); regd St Geo East, Dec 1861. Mate in the merchant navy. Believed to have died when his ship sank with all hands off Singapore (MW).
