- WILLIAM(Sommerwill/Somerville): Marriage licence issued 7 Dec 1761 to Wm Sommerwill, mate of 'The Duke', and MARY HENRY of Stokedamarel, spinster; marriage at Stoke Damerel 8 Dec 1761 of "William Somerville, Mate HM Ship Duke, & Mary Henry, Lic." Possibly son of Robert & Mary, see Group C8. A Will Somerwell, Mid, is listed in the Ship's Muster of HMS Duke, 1 Jan 1762. It is unclear whether this is the same William or another. A midshipman could be a mate, as Philip's record shows (see below). The Navy List, first published 1790, shows all lieutenants with the year of their first commission (1744-1789), masters and commanders, pensioned captains and captains. No William is listed. This William therefore either was never commissioned or was dead by 1790. Mary daughter of a Mr Miller & Elizabeth (nee O'Donovan), born 1742; died Sept quarter 1791, age 41, at Stoke Damerel (MW)
- PHILIP: Son of William & Mary Somerville, born c1761-3; baptised Stoke Damerel 19 Feb 1763 (IGI); Royal Navy lieutenant's certificate awarded 18 Apr 1782, when Philip is 21, having served 6 years in ships, first when a child of 7-9 (see below). Marriage licence issued 2 Jun 1783 to Philip Somerville of 'The Goliah' and ROSANNA BYRON FIELD of Stoke Damerel; marriage at Stoke Damerel 3 Jun 1783 of "Philip Somerville, Lieutenant of HM Ship Goliah, and Rosanna Byron Field of this parish, spinster, by licence". Rosanna, (born 1762 - MV), was daughter of George Field (died Sep 1811, age 70) and Mary nee Miller, dau of Captain John Dunn RN and Elizabeth (formerly Henry, nee O'Donovan (MW) (died Dec 1791, aged 49). Philip's will dated 1816; for details. Died 17 Feb 1817, age 54 (Captain RN) at St Aubyn St, Plymouth Dock (Gent Mag 1817/280 - BMSI). - WILLIAM HUGH: Baptised Stoke Damerel 6 Jan 1785 (IGI). Lieutenant RN, commissioned 24 Apr 1802; ships: Dragon, 1806 Sampson, Royal George; married CATHARINE; died before 1817 (JH)
- PHILIP: Probably the Philip who entered the Navy in 1824, was commisioned in 1841 and became a commander in 1848. See naval biography
- MARY: baptised Stoke Damerel 3 Jun 1786 (IGI); married James Litle, Surgeon RN, Stoke Damerel 19 Apr 1814 (IGI)
- GEORGE FIELD: Born c.1788; baptised Stoke Damerel 13 May 1797 (IGI); married MARY ANN HODGE. See Group F3
- CHARLES: Born 20 Feb 1790 (Lieut's Passing Certs - JH); baptised Stoke Damerel 18 May 1790 (IGI). Lieutenant RN. Died before 1817?
- JOHN: Born 2 Jan 1793; baptised Stoke Damerel 20 Apr 1808; commissioned Lieutenant RN 3 Jan 1814; married SUSAN DORCAS BAXTER and MARY FOWLER. See Group F2
- ROSINA YOUNG: born Devonport 25 Sep 1794 (JH); baptised Stoke Damerel 13 May 1797 (IGI). In 1851 census (index) at 42 Emma Place, East Stonehouse, unmarried, age 60
- JAMES BOWEN: Born 10 Apr 1797 (Lieut's Passing Certs) - JH; baptised Stoke Damerel 9 May 1797 (IGI). Entered Naval College 1811, commisioned 1821. Married ELIZABETH DOWNES, born London/Middlesex c.1806-1813. In the 1851 census together at 4 Chapel Street, Plymouth: James is a visitor, married, age 50 (60?), Lieutenant RN, born Devonport; Elizabeth, age 38, born London. In 1861 census at 4 Osborne Villas, Stoke Damerel: James 64, magistrate & Commander RN on half pay; Elizabeth age 53 born Middlesex. In 1871 census at same address: James B. head, married, age 74, Commander RN, born Stoke Damerel; Elizabeth, wife, age 65, born Middlesex; Ann Martin, wife's sister, widow, 69, "Income from Houses", born Middlesex; Frances L. Downes, wife's sister, unmarried, age 68, "Income from Dividends", born Middlesex; plus 3 servants. In 1881 census Elizabeth as alone at the same address, widow, age 70, annuitant, born London. Married Krystan Lach-Szyrma 9 Jul 1840. Son Wladislaw Somerville Lach-Szyrma born Devonport 25 Dec 1841 became an Anglican priest (JH)
